STOP PRESS: Chloe Lattanzi releases debut video

This is the moment I've been waiting for since 2003 - the year Chloe first started work on her album. Olivia Newton-John's breathtakingly talented and gorgeous daughter has finally got around to releasing her first video! And it was well and truly worth the wait. While "Play With Me" doesn't quite reach the heady heights of her upbeat anorexia anthem "Delicious" or ode to being clinically depressed "Make It Stop", the video is everything we've come to expect from Chloe and more. You know you're in for something special when a clip opens with a man sitting on the toilet. From there on it just gets more and more classy. Australia's gift to music spends the rest of the clip trying to kill herself, crying blood and snorting copious amounts of cocaine. Could your fave? I particularly love the future Grammy winner's stunning facial expressions and glamorous outfit. How annoying that this was released a couple of days after the MTV Video Music Award nominations were announced. It would have swept the pool! Now when is this masterpiece hitting iTunes? It must be mine. Brace yourself for the wild ride that is Chloe Lattanzi.

STOP PRESS: Chloe Lattanzi Releases Debut Single!

I'm hyperventilating! I just logged into Facebook and read the most glorious update of 2010. Pop trash icon Chloe Lattanzi has finally released her debut single. In Japan! 8 years after signing her first record deal! Seriously, I couldn't be more excited if La Toya actually started over. Olivia Newton-John's troubled daughter has been a staple of this blog from the very beginning. Her catchy, anorexia anthem "Delicious" remains a firm favourite of mine and I even crowned her the Pop Trash Queen of 2008. Though my faith in Chloe's unparalleled talent never wavered, I was starting to think she might be too edgy for the pop world but I'm so glad I was wrong. Her debut single is called "Wings And A Gun" and sounds like a stunning emo-pop masterpiece from the 50 second preview (below). The song is released in Japan today to coincide with her mother's Japanese tour. Marketing genius! Surely, it's Australia's turn next?

Chloe Lattanzi - Pop Trash Queen 2008

I don't even have to wait until the end of the year to christen Chloe Lattanzi the new queen of pop trash. I've always liked Olivia's insane daughter but since the beginning of MTV's "Rock The Cradle", my admiration has reached an entirely new level. This amazing diva has really captured my heart with her charismatic performances and her general inability to keep a lid on the crazy. A couple of weeks ago I wrote about Chloe's first two performances, well since then she's gone on the destroy her mother's classic "I Honestly Love You" in the most fabulous way imaginable and also managed to turn Korn's "Freak On A Leash" into a demented goth ballad while rolling around on the floor like a disabled hooker! Poor Chloe has been panned by the judges every week and ridiculed across the internet (despite his loud protestations, I'm convinced D Listed's Michael K is a HUGE fan!) but she keeps on scraping through the rounds. Chloe has now reached the final 5 contestants and her fate depends on the viewers' reaction to her mind blowing cover of Britney's "Toxic".

Car crash television seriously doesn't get any better than this. The clip begins with a visit to the teepee that Chloe's father lives in. No wonder Chloe is ten kinds of crazy - her father lives in a tent playing the didgeridoo! The excruciating look on Olivia's face says it all, you just know she's wishing the ground would swallow her up. (I highly recommend you watch the full hilarious clip of Chloe's teepee visit here - It explains a lot!) Chloe is then told she has to sing "Toxic" by Britney's ex-manager and bursts into tears and keeps on crying all through rehearsals. My favourite bit is when she breaks down and sobs "dude, I'm not Britney Spears"! They might share the same level of mental stability but Chloe goes on to prove her point by blowing Britney out of the water with a truly magnificent rendition of "Toxic". I love eveything about this - Chloe's demented posing on the staircase, her bizarre interaction with the hot guy tied to the chair, the gravelly quality of her voice and most of all, her bad dancing!

I really hope this stunning talent makes it through another elimination. I think people are connecting with Chloe in a big way. Her rawness is just so appealing. From the teepee footage it's painfully clear that Chloe is simply not equipped for the real world, let alone the entertainment business. Paradoxically, that's exactly what makes her so endearing. What you see is what you get and I think I'm in love!

Chloe Lattanzi Rocks The Cradle

I'm a huge fan of Olivia Newton-John's slightly demented daughter. I can't get enough of Chloe Lattanzi's crazy antics in the tabloids and I ache for the bizarre video blogs that occasionally pop up on her Myspace. Most of all, I love her music. Chloe's catchy anorexia anthem "Delicious" came in at number 11 on my best of 2007 countdown and it probably should have placed even higher, given that it's still burning up my Ipod all these months later. Chloe has been threatening to release her debut album for almost 5 years but the wait could finally be over thanks to an American talent show.


MTV's Rock The Cradle is kind of like American Idol for celebrity offspring. Basically, Chloe is battling the likes of MC Hammer's daughter and Bobby Brown's son for a recording contract. I wish the show was broadcast in Australia - this trash has my name written all over it! Unfortunately, Chloe's first performance was panned by all the judges except the lovely Belinda Carlisle and she placed second last in the phone poll. I was interested to see the clip for myself and I'm completely mystified by the negative reaction. Chloe's interpretation of the INXS classic "Never Tear Us Apart" is spectacular. I love her scary man voice, crazy eyes and theatrical phrasing. Sure, she's a little rough around the edges but there's no denying that Chloe has something very unique about her. Never Tear Us Apart

After narrowly avoiding elimination, Chloe switched into rock chick mode for the "parent's choice" show in round two. I think Olivia must be really sick of sitting in the audience because she selected a complete stinker in an obvious attempt to get Chloe booted. The judges were relatively impressed but I agree with Belinda's comment that it was a poor song choice. The performance itself, however, is fucking fabulous and typically demented. I thought Chloe was going to burst an implant when she started writhing on the floor like Linda Blair in The Exorcist! I really hope she makes it through to the next round - I'm dying to see what this crazy broad comes up with next. Watch Chloe throw it down:
I Hate Everything About You
I'm not sure of the show's format but I hope the contestants are eventually allowed to perform original material. Chloe is yet to post a song on a her myspace that hasn't completely blown me away. I love her dark electro sound and the depressing yet strangely catchy lyrics. I didn't think Chloe would ever surpass the brilliance of "Delicious" but her latest offering does just that. "Make It Stop" is one of the best songs I've heard all year. The crashing synths and driving beats provide an epic backdrop for Chloe's pleading voice and bittersweet lyrics. Think of this exquisite anthem as the bleak and bitter sister of Robyn's "Be Mine". Chloe had better win Rock The Cradle so I can finally get my hands on her fucking album!

A low quality unmixed demo of "Make It Stop" was made available on Chloe's Myspace and I don't think anyone from her camp would mind me posting it. The sound is a bit rough but it gives you a good idea of the track's unlimited potential.

The Pop Trash Diva Update

The unparalleled musical genius of Billiam was always going to be a hard act to follow, so I thought I'd just ramble on about a few of my favourite divas tonight. As Dannii's #1 fan (not currently undergoing psychiatric treatment), I feel it's my duty to remind everyone that Dannii's stunning new single is released tomorrow in the UK. "Touch Me Like That" is a sublime slice of dance music built around a throbbing sample of Sylvester's "Mighty Real" and deserves to be a massive hit. Unfortunately, download sales have thus far been underwhelming. Beautiful Dannii can console herself with the knowledge that "Touch Me Like That" debuts on the Australian club chart this week at #48!

Dannii isn't the only Minogue making waves on the ARIA charts. While not quite as spectacular as Dannii's stunning club debut, Kylie has claimed the top stop on the Australian album chart with "X" - giving the older Minogue her third #1 album. Having lived and breathed "X" for the past week, I'm more convinced than ever that Kylie has crafted one of the best albums of her career. Hell, I've even grown to appreciate "Nu-Di-Ty"! If you're looking for the perfect Christmas present for a Kylie fan, you can't go past the "X" USB (pictured above). Mine arrived on Friday and I haven't had this much fun with a toy since my last trip to Adult World. As far as I know, there are no plans to release the USB in Australia, so you're best bet is to order it online. It's currently being stocked by Play.com and HMV UK.

Hopefully some of Kylie's success can rub off on Tina Arena. I've had a sneaky listen to Tina's "Songs Of Love & Loss" ahead of its official release on Monday and the album is breathtakingly beautiful. Tina not only interprets a selection of much loved classics - she takes them to new heights and makes them her own. If the popularity of "To Sir With Love" on iTunes is any indication, "Songs Of Love & Loss" has every chance of being a big hit. Expect a detailed review of the album later in the week.

In further chart news, the Young Divas land at #10 with "New Attitude". I've already sung the album's praises to anyone who will listen but I probably haven't mentioned the brilliance of the iTunes bonus track. The Divas take on Whitney Houston with a cheeky cover of "I Wanna Dance With Somebody". Needless to say, it's camper than Kylie at an ABBA concert and is well worth downloading. Speaking of high camp divas, it's hard to surpass the classy antics of She Is The King - Australia's beloved female Elvis Impersonator. SITK's glorious cover of "Viva Las Vegas" (complete with drag queen filled video clip) was one of the year's poptastic highlights and her new album promises more of the same. "Comeback" serves up a fine selection of Elvis covers and is released tomorrow. While you're there, why not pick up the Gold Tour Edition of Marcia Hines' amazing "Discotheque" album. More about that later.

Chloe is set to launch her career with "It's Magic", an insanely catchy anthem that heavily samples her mother's #1 hit from 1980. The song has been a favourite of mine since the demo first appeared on Chloe's Myspace and I'm confident it will be huge! Chloe's Lattanzi = Delicious

As Olivia Newton-John's only child, Chloe Lattanzi has been in the media spotlight since birth. Initially held up as the epitome of well-adjusted celebrity offspring, Chloe is now the poster girl for anorexia. Following Olivia's daughter over the past few years has been like watching a car crash in slow motion. I want to stop looking but I can't help myself. I don't want to focus too heavily on Chloe's many issues. They get enough coverage. I'm more interested in her fabulous and increasingly disturbing musical output. Chloe really needs to get her shit together because she has almost unlimited potential as a pop star.

Chloe's problems first came to the surface when she announced that she was going to follow in Olivia's footsteps by releasing an album. She was snapped up by Warner Australia in 2003 and soon generated a lot of buzz with her debut album, tentatively titled "Lonely Nights In Paradise". The album was completed and even promoted before Chloe pulled the plug and bought herself out of the contract, claiming she wanted greater artistic control. Since then, Chloe has been in one long tailspin - garnering more attention for her battle with anorexia and her alleged plastic surgery addiction than for her music. I think Chloe has simply buckled under the weight of expectation. I feel sorry for her. She knows she will be compared with her mother and judged more severely than other fledgling pop divas.

The great irony is that all the tracks leaked from "Lonely Nights In Paradise" have been fantastic. I'm sure the album would have been well received. Chloe has a great voice and more importantly, has something to say. Thankfully, she has continued to work on the album and it is scheduled to be released later this year with the new title, "No Pain". The first taste of her new material has caused quite a stir in Australia. "Delicious" is dark, disturbing and insanely catchy. The lyrics are genuinely confronting. Chloe sings about wasting away and pleads for help to survive. It feels perverse to say it but "Delicious" is actually a hugely enjoyable listen. The beats are hypnotic and the chorus has been stuck in my head for days. If this is any indication, "No Pain" should be an absolute winner.

"Delicious" was put up on Chloe's Myspace and is obviously a work in progress. Make sure you check out her other songs - particularly, "Magic", which samples her mother's #1 hit of the same name. Get well, girlfriend.
