Mylène's latest triumph!

Poor Lady Gaga. She hires RedOne and ends up with a stinker like "Judas", while stunning 49-year-old French pop legend Mylène Farmer nabs a modern classic. "Lonely Lisa" is the third single from "Bleu Noir" and should follow the other two all the way to number one - which would make it her 8th consecutive chart topper in France and 12th in total. This bitch has snatched so many wigs she has RSI! I loved understated moodiness of Mylène's last single but "Lonely Lisa" is in a different league entirely. RedOne was obviously inspired by the diva's timeless beauty and delivers a turbo-charged pop song, as haunting as it is catchy. I can't wait for my physical copy to arrive so I can spend hours admiring Mylène's stunning outfit on the cover (above). Now that's what I call glamour. As for the video, it's another triumph. While smaller stars like Rihanna and Lady Gaga employ shock tactics for publicity, the French superstar explores the riveting topic of tanning in her clip. In sunbeds. In the desert. Oh and there's also a shimmery black camel and ballet dancers. It makes no sense whatsoever but remains utterly amazing. Only Mylène!

Lionel Richie + Guy Sebastian + RedOne

Lionel Richie is poised to have his first major Australian hit since... time immemorial the early 90s with a re-make of "All Night Long". His 1983 number one smash has been overhauled by RedOne and now features Guy Sebastian on backing vocals. I know it sounds like a bad joke but the update actually kind of works and all the proceeds go to the victims of the Christchurch earthquake and Queensland floods - so there's no excuse not to at least try this shit out. Just be grateful they went with "All Night Long" instead of "Hello" or "Penny Lover"! The song has a timeless quality (which RedOne proved last year by sampling it in Enrique's "I Like It") and lends itself easily to the duet format. Although to be honest, Guy really does play second fiddle to Lionel on this. It's like he didn't want to outshine the superstar with his superior vocals - Am I forgiven Guy Sebastian stans? - and humbly took a back seat. Guy is actually on fire at the moment. I secretly love "Who's That Girl" and his joint tour with Lionel is bringing in huge crowds. He just needs to re-release his underrated masterpiece "Oh Oh" and I'll considering turning to the dark side. As for Lionel, this is easily his finest moment since 2004's "Just For You" - one of my favourite jams from that year. "All Night Long 2011" isn't on YouTube yet, but you can preview the song on iTunes. The track is already at #13 after a day, so it looks like being a big hit. I hope there's a glamorous video to accompany this hot mess. Hell, a live clip would suffice. Check out the original version below. Those high waisted leather jeans are to die for!

Mylène Farmer - Oui Mais Non

I've been inundated with (at least two) requests to review this single and I'm more than happy to oblige. Mylène Farmer needs no introduction if you live in Europe but my Australian homegirls and gays might need some help. She is often described as the French Madonna due to both her phenomenal chart success in the 80s and inability to age gracefully. Personally, I think the comparison is unfair because unlike her American counterpart, Mylène still has hits and is not completely irrelevant. Although her latest smash does have more than a whiff of desperation about it. The completely natural, surgically untouched 49 year old has hooked up with RedOne for "Oui Mais Non" and some critics are accusing her of ripping off Lady Gaga. How ridiculous! Everyone knows that Gaga stole Kat Deluna's sound first - so, who cares? And everything sounds better in French anyway. You could probably read the obituaries to me en français and I'd think it was a love poem. But I digress. The production is slick, the chorus is catchy and RedOne thankfully forgot to bring his vocoder to the studio. I'm sold. The video, on the other hand, is a lazy "Bad Romance" rip off but you can't have everything. I've already ordered a physical copy of this from French Amazon. It's worth the 10 Euros just to stare at Mylène's natural beauty for hours on end!

Livvi Franc's Automatik Classic

I could turn you loose, baby what's the use?
I come back to you like automatic

Last year I chatted with a little known singer called Livvi Franc about her debut single "Now I'm That Bitch". In the interview the upcoming diva boasted about working with super producer RedOne (Lady GaGa, Little Boots, Sugababes etc) on her next single and promised to show a different side of herself by delivering "a club banger". Well, lovely Livvi was true to her word. "Automatik" is a breathtaking dance anthem that should be the Barbadian beauty's calling card to mainstream chart success. I'm not RedOne's biggest fan - it seems like everyone but Lady GaGa gets served up the same old shit - but Livvi obviously caught the Swede on a very good day. The production is less intrusive than usual, showcasing the surprisingly vulnerable lyrics with pristine beats and pretty synths. I love upbeat pop songs with a slightly bittersweet twist (think Kylie's "Better The Devil You Know") and "Automatik" is a superb addition to the genre. I'm not sure about the video (below), which is trying to be Beyoncé on a Michelle Williams sized budget but who cares when the song is this good? Strike up Livvi's jam as one of the first killer pop tunes of 2010.

7 Questions With Livvi Franc - Yes, That Bitch!

Livvi Franc has been making major waves on the international pop scene for the past few months with her fabulous fuck you anthem "Now I'm That Bitch". The song reached #1 on the US club chart and has recently been overhauled to include a cameo by rap superstar Pitbull. However, don't dismiss the Bahamian beauty as another run of the mill urban diva. Livvi has a passion for pop and promises a debut album full of club bangers and party anthems. I love "Now I'm That Bitch" but I'm positively salivating to hear what she comes up with next given the line up of producers she's been working with - including RedOne (Lady GaGa), Greg Kurstin (Kylie), Eg White (Adele) and JR Rotem (Rihanna). Lovely Livvi recently took some time out from her campaign for global domination to answer a few of my questions. Here's what she had to say:

"Now I'm That Bitch" is the ultimate revenge anthem. Have you ever been dissed by a man who lived to regret it?
I have soooo been dissed by a guy. I wrote the song myself so it's a personal story and it's about when I was younger. I had a crush on a guy and I was a bit quieter then, didn't have quite as much self esteem and the guy passed me by and went onto the next girl. Now I am hot and sexy and the same guy is ringing my phone and I just say to him 'you were too fly then, so fly away now!'

How did Pitbull get involved in the track?
We first recorded the song in December and when it came close to the radio release we thought it would be fun to have someone featuring on the track because I'm solo the rest of the album. Pitbull right now is so hot in the States and doing well in the UK too so we thought it would be a good look. He's also got some roots in the Caribbean like me and is Cuban American which is a cool look. I'm really happy it worked out because I think his voice really complemented the song and he's such a down to earth guy that it was cool to hang out with him.

You have worked with some amazing producers. How did the collaborations with RedOne and Greg Kurstin come about?
The way it works is my A&R at my label understands the direction I want to take as an artist so he organises a few producers that he thinks it would be good for me to work with. I went to LA to work with Greg and it was really wonderful. We did two songs for the album and his retro vibe really brought the 60s styles I love out. Then I went to work with RedOne which was an awesome experience. I love to party, so he definitely brought that side out for me. The dance, club sound. I'm really happy to have done some dance tracks.

So should we expect more of a hip hop or pop vibe on the album?
The album is definitely more pop orientated. I think it's pop fusion because it's not straightforward. It's pop with a story behind it - my personal experiences are there. The reason I say fusion is because there's a hint of reggae from my Barbardos life and also a retro vibe from my time in the UK and that commercial club vibe from the US.

The "Now I'm That Bitch" remixes have been huge in clubland. Is dance music on your agenda?
I love all sorts of music so I'm really open to doing anything that complements my sound. I loved hearing the dance remixes of this single so I'm looking forward to doing some more club songs. I love it when you're out and you hear a really feel good song that makes you want to get up and have a dance so I'll be doing more of that for sure.

What can we expect from your next single?
My next single 'Automatic' was produced by RedOne and is going to be a 'club banger'!

How do you feel about all the comparisons with Rihanna?
The comparisons are obviously expected because we're both doing pop music and are from Barbados. I think it's okay because when you're a new artist you'll always be compared. Once they hear my music then they'll realise my own qualities and we'll see there's quite a few differences.
