Brielle's Blunder

I was happily surprised to see Brielle Davis in yesterday's Sydney Confidential until I read the piece. In a typically vindictive and factually incorrect article ("country music singer Brielle" hasn't recorded a country song since she was 12 and did not won a Golden Guitar Award), the newspaper gleefully reports that Brielle was recently arrested after allegedly crashing her car into a house in Sans Souci with a blood alcohol reading of 0.19. The pop diva was charged with a high level PCA (Prescribed Concentration of Alcohol) and negligent driving. She faces court on the 29th of January.

No one was injured in the incident - not that it excuses Brielle's alleged actions. Drink driving is incontrovertibly stupid. However, good people sometimes do stupid things and Brielle is a good person. I was lucky enough to meet Brielle after a gig at The Vanguard last year and I can't speak highly enough of her. She was warm, friendly and took the time to chat with everyone in the venue. Apart from being an absolute sweetheart, Brielle has also volunteered for a long list of organisations and even flew to the Solomon Islands to perform for Australian troops.

At a time when celebrity drug habits barely raise an eyebrow, Brielle's purported actions seem rather tame in comparison. It would be manifestly unfair if one mistake - however serious - adversely effects a most promising career. I wish Brielle all the best for her court date and look forward to seeing her perform on Saturday as an Australia Day ambassador. Brielle Davis - Vanguard Showcase

An acoustic gig is an intimidating prospect for the most seasoned pop diva. Without the protective buffer of a backing track and choreography, the focus falls squarely on the raw talent of the performer - the strength of their voice and the quality of their songs. Brielle Davis, however, is no ordinary pop tart. From the moment Brielle took to the intimate Vanguard stage on Sunday night, she held the audience in the palm of her pretty hand with brilliant acoustic interpretations of her own fine material and an eclectic selection of cover versions. If there were any doubts about Brielle being anything but the real deal, they had well and truly vanished by the conclusion of this mesmerising performance.

While Mamacita warmed the crowd with their funky blend of Latin infused hip hop, Brielle made a low key entrance and immediately started greeting friends, fans and family members. It hardly seems possible but Brielle is even more strikingly beautiful in person. With her pretty face framed by a mane of fire red curls, Brielle looked every bit the rock goddess in a sexy corset top and killer heels. Most importantly, Brielle has the raw talent to match her stunning looks. I can't think of many divas who could carry off an acoustic set of pared back pop songs with only the backing of a guitarist and a microphone. Brielle not only pulled it off, she enthralled everyone with the pure quality of her voice and the power of her music. The versatile set showcased Brielle's new material, included fan favourites and threw in some surprising cover versions for good measure.

Despite being relegated to a B-side, Brielle's sublime "Oxygen" is an Australian pop classic. The sense of obsession and longing that makes the original version such an unusual dance anthem became even more apparent in Brielle's haunting live version. Stripped of its electronic palette, the song was transformed into a beautifully desperate plea for love. Ever the chameleon, Brielle effortlessly switched from forlorn to funky with a sexy interpretation of "Cybersexual". The first of several new tracks, "Cybersexual" is a very modern love song with some eyebrow raising lyrics about hitting Brielle's "virtual spot"! An edgy studio version of "Cybersexual" could well be the breakout hit Brielle has been waiting for. Speaking of hits, the evening's warmest reception was reserved for a rousing rendition of "Serial Thriller", which had the entire crowd singing along.

An acoustic performance of "Serial Thriller" from another gig

Other highlights included the promising batch of new tracks and a quirky selection of cover versions. An inspired rendition of the Scissor Sister's "Take Your Mama Out" tore up the venue, while Brielle displayed her ability to rock with the best of them by covering Queens Of The Stone Age - if I'm not mistaken! The last time I saw Brielle perform, she was camping it up with a fabulous dance set at Arq nightclub. It speaks volumes for Brielle's astonishing versatility that she's equally at home playing a metal anthem on an acoustic guitar. By the end of the gig Brielle had proven beyond any shadow of a doubt that she is the complete package.

On a personal note, one of the many things I love about Brielle is the way she interacts with fans. Instead of disappearing like a diva, Brielle climbed off stage and mingled with the crowd for almost an hour. I was lucky enough to be introduced to Brielle and she is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. In fact, The Vanguard was positively swarming with members of the Davis clan - and I think I managed to chat with just about all them by the end of the night. What a cool family!

Those of you who missed the show can still revel in Brielle's acoustic brilliance with the announcement of a brand spanking new acoustic EP, "Crossing The Line". I'm hugely excited about the EP. The tracklisting is a fine mix of new and previously released material, making it the perfect album sampler. I can't wait for my copy to arrive in the post, so I can listen to Brielle's stunning acoustic version of "Oxygen" on repeat! "Crossing The Line" is exclusively available from Brielle's website and costs a very reasonable $10. You can listen to clips of all 7 tracks and order your copy here.

Brielle - SSO Interview, Album & Tour News

The local gay press is always a great read but this week's edition of the Sydney Star Observer is extra special. Cabaret legends, Kiki & Herb, appear on the front cover and there is a feature interview with one of my favourite divas, Brielle Davis. Brielle reveals details about her album, talks about her connection to the gay community and announces an upcoming gig at The Vanguard on September 9. I can't wait! Check out Sunny Burns' excellent article:

You can purchase tickets to Brielle's Vanguard gig here. The paper also mentions Holland's bear boyband, Bearforce 1. I was intrigued and slightly turned on by the prospect, so I decided to check them out.

I'm not sure what I expected but this tragifabulous pop gem exceeded all expections! Basically, their debut single is a megamix of 80s hits including Sabrina's "Boys" and Dead Or Alive's "You Spin Me Round". The video (below) is so fucking camp it makes The Village People seem butch in comparison! You can download Bearforce 1's materpiece from their website.

Brielle's War Journal & Canadian Hit!

Brielle Davis is, without a doubt, one of Australia's most fabulous pop divas. When she's not burning up dancefloors with her heavenly anthems, she's doing something completely random like modelling for Supre or entertaining our troops in war-torn Honiara. Speaking of which, I recently devoted a post to Brielle's humanitarian mission in the Solomon Islands and cheekily implied that Brielle's selection might have had more to do with her striking good looks than fierce musical talent. I had visions of Brielle performing "Take It Off" in a bikini for a room of sweaty soldiers but I couldn't have been more mistaken!

The details of Brielle's trip can be found in a lengthy and fascinating diary entry on her website. Reading the article has left me even more smitten with Brielle. Her writing is articulate, funny and insightful. Most endearingly, Brielle comes across as an ordinary girl in her 20s. There is no bullshit or grandstanding. She writes excitedly about travelling in a private jet, admits perving on the "sexy army boys", warns haters that she's learned to shoot a gun (!) and amusingly comments that her first thought on arriving in Honiara was "fuck it's hot"! I would loved to have witnessed Brielle's acoustic performances and I'm completely intrigued by the amazing photos. Brielle's new hair colour is fierce and she achieves the impossible by looking smoking hot in army greens!

Read the full account of Brielle's amazing adventure here.

In other Brielle news, her stunning anthem "Take It Off" is, well, taking off in Canada! The rocking Andy Caldwell Mix has climbed into the top 10 of the BPM:TV chart and my Canadian friends report that Brielle is picking up quite a bit of airplay. I'm ecstatic that Brielle's music is finally generating some international attention. Make sure you check out the fabulous clip if you haven't already and give Brielle a cheap thrill by becoming one of her Myspace friends. Brielle's highly anticipated album, "The Other Side", is scheduled for release later in the year.

Australia's Secret Weapon - Brielle Davis

Are gays still banned from the military in this country? If Australia has finally moved out of the dark ages, I'd consider a (very brief) tour of duty if it meant being treated to a private performance by the lovely Brielle Davis! Brielle was recently selected to perform for Australian troops in the troubled city of Honiara in the Solomon Islands along with the Screaming Jets. I'd like to commend the army on their excellent taste - Brielle's recent single "Take It Off" is surely one of the year's best pop releases! I'm sure Brielle's stunning good looks had nothing to do with her selection...

Australian troops - mesmerised by Brielle's... vocal talent

Brielle is currently putting the finishing touches on her first pop album (she released a cute country album as a 12 year old). I still can't get enough of the first two singles, "Serial Thriller" and "Take It Off". Check out the film clip for "Take It Off", which I find particularly classy! Hopefully, Brielle will tell us all about her patriotic mission on her website and Myspace, which is showcasing another excellent new track called "Circles".

Brielle Davis - Take It Off

This has been quite a spectacular couple of weeks for Australian pop divas. Melinda Jackson unleashed her stunning debut single, The Deni continued her superb run of urban pop gems and Brielle Davis released her latest pop anthem, "Take It Off". With Dannii's next smash hit only a matter of weeks away, I think it's fair to call this something of a purple patch for Australian pop music. All we need is new music from Kylie and Melissa Tkautz and I will officially be in pop heaven!

Brielle Davis is a unique figure on the Australian music scene. She was something of a child prodigy, releasing a highly acclaimed country album when she was only 12 years old. Brielle is still the youngest artist to be nominated for an Australian Golden Guitar Award. After such an audacious start, Brielle surprisingly disappeared from the music scene for the next decade until re-appearing last year with the fantastic dance track, "Serial Thriller". Brielle had returned with not only a hot new sound but also a sexy, new image. The follow up to "Serial Thriller" has been almost a year in the making but it was worth the wait. "Take It Off" is an absolute corker of a track. The standard radio edit is funky pop tune with a distinct urban flavour. I like the original version but I prefer the dance mix, which has been a big hit on the Club Chart.

Make sure to check out the video clip - the shirtless construction worker won me over! You can hear clips of all the "Take It Off" and "Serial Thriller" mixes on Brielle's charming website. If you like what you hear, be sure to purchase the single from itunes, Chaos or Sanity. I can't wait for her forthcoming album, expect to see more of Brielle here in the near future!Source URL: https://popmusicrecords.blogspot.com/search/label/Brielle
